SYNOPSIS  Swear by Apollo, is a short film that delves into present day racial and ethnic tensions and shines a light on the dark corners of our individual and collective psyche. We witness the aftermath of yet another school shooting through the eyes of a Latina doctor. She has suffered a devastating personal loss at the hands of a seemingly normal student from Clearhill High School who oblivious to others is besieged by racial hatred. We journey into their inner worlds and lay witness to the consequences of their most intimate thoughts. Dramatic life events thrust them into an unfathomable situation where a doctor must choose between succumbing to overwhelming rage or staying faithful to the principles embodied by the Hippocratic oath she has sworn. The film is a dizzying drama that showcases the severity of our current racial climate, and potentially deluded internal worlds that drive young adults to commit atrocious acts of hatred and violence. “Skin color may be different our blood is not”. Swear by Apollo is the Hippocratic oath taken by doctors about to enter the practice of medicine in order to observe a code of medical ethics. It embodies the duties and obligations of physicians. An extract from a modern version of this oath says : "Most specifically must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given to me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. Above all, I must not play at God.
